General skills:
The general skills that make a presentation a success
include adapting content and style of said presentation to suit the audience,
asking questions and having the audience give them the answers and other
techniques that keeps the audience engaged.
The reason why adapting the content and style of a conversation
is important is because if you are talking to a specific group such as an
employer and then talk to them about something that has nothing to do with the
job and discuss it in the same way you talk to your friends then you will look not
only foolish but you will also loose the attention of the person that you are
trying to motivate making you not only fail to your message across but you
won’t get the job that you were seeking as well.
The reason why asking questions to that person is a good
thing to do is because it keeps him/her on their toes so they begin to really
pay attention to you because they don’t want to be shown up because they
weren’t listening to what to you were saying however to do that you need to
make sure that you ask questions to the audience that are on the topic that you
are talking about instead of asking random questions (which links back to adapting
the content and style of the conversation to suit the audience).
The reason why it is important to add other engagement
techniques to your lecture/presentation is because one of those techniques is
to change the tone of your voice every so often in the conversation so that
when you do you will gain the attention of the person and stop it from sounding
boring so instead you should talk in a more positive tone when talking about a
positive subject and talk in a more negative tone when talking about a negative
or serious tone so the audience can know how you feel on the topic.
Interpersonal skills:
The next three skills that are good to have so that your
conversations sound more exciting are down to how you act while in the
conversation instead of how you speak in said conversation, these include
positive and negative language in the conversation, active engagement and the
different types of questions you may ask.
The reason why positive and negative language in a sentence
is important is because if you are discussing a sad, important or serious topic
then it is inappropriate to be using positive language and vice verse with a
positive topic so you must keep negative language to negative topics and
positive language to positive topics in order to stop your audience from being
completely confused (this can also class as another important engagement
technique) it is also important to know when and how to use the right mix of
positive and negative language depending on the type of audience you are
talking to.
The reason why being actively engaged is important in a
conversation is because when the other person or other people are answering
back on your comments then you must show that you are alert to what they are
saying and that you are interested in what they want to say because if you look
bored or distracted in front of the employer while he/she is talking to you
then they will consider it a sign of rudeness and they will not accept you into
their workplace or university unless you show that you are engaged in the
conversation.
And the reason why using different types of questions inside
conversation is because if you are talking about a sad topic or if you are in a
serious conversation then you need to be using more closed questions whereas if
you were talking with your friends then you would use more open questions.
Written communication:
The final group of skills that teaches you how to
communicate with other people effectively come in the form of writing and what
you wright to people. These include what
you wright/type in letters faxes and emails, the level of spelling and grammar
that you have and the structure of the work.
The reason why the correct use of language in a letter, a
fax or an email is important is because if you are sending in your cv to an
employer or your university application to the university that you would like
to join via any of the three ways that have been listed then you must check
that you have made sure that you have made the text readable without putting it
into an unreadable font, used informal language instead of formal language or
used any slang what so ever or the employers or university scouts will not take
the letter, fax or email seriously and they will just engorge it leaving you
without a job or without a high quality education.
The reason why spelling and grammar is important is much for
the same reasons why using good language in emails, letters and faxes are
important so they also contribute massively to making you look good in front of
employers and university scouts.
Finally the reason why the structure of a written piece of
work is important is because if the job applicant or the university applicant
is untidy and it only has one paragraph then the person who will be reviewing
the case will not be able to read it meaning that they will reject you without
actually looking at the letter, fax or email that you sent in.
